What will the next-gen Hyundai Tucson look like?

As seen in new spy shots of the production model, the next-gen Tucson will carry over many elements from the Vision Concept T SUV, with the silhouette and proportions also similar to the concept. Elements like the flared wheel arches, rising beltline, the front grille, bumper and headlight design are carried over from the concept and feature the same sharp, angular treatment. The production car will also get a rear light bar that connects the tail-lights, as seen on the concept. 

What engines will the new Hyundai Tucson feature?

Latest reports indicate that Hyundai will equip the new Tucson with both, petrol and diesel engines. Starting with the diesel, it will be an updated version of the 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged engine, with claimed improvements in fuel economy and NVH (noise, vibration and harshness) levels.

Petrol power will be available in two options, the smaller of which will be Hyundai’s new Smartstream 1.6-litre, four-cylinder, turbocharged T-GDi engine. This unit will also be available with a hybrid system that essentially pairs the petrol engine with an electric motor and a 1.49kW lithium-ion battery. There is also supposed to be a sportier Tucson N-line, which will use a 2.5-litre, turbo-petrol T-GDI engine. This is the same engine as in the Hyundai Sonata N-line, where it produces 290hp and 422Nm of torque. 

What will the interior of the new Tucson be like?

The changes to the interior will also be quite drastic. The Tucson will adopt an all-new dashboard layout, with a large digital instrument panel sitting like a tablet behind a new four-spoke steering wheel.

The centre touchscreen will be a horizontally laid-out one, like in the new Creta. Also seen in the pictures is an electronic button-style gear selector.

Will the Hyundai Tucson use a new platform?

Yes, the new Tucson will be in its third generation and will make use of a new platform that is said to have better strength, safety and driving dynamics, while also being lighter. Additionally, this new platform will result in an increase in the Tucson’s dimensions over the current model.
