– Toyota provides health and hygiene kits to 25,000 families

– The company is distributing the kits through employee volunteered CSR initiative

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has been undertaking several initiatives to help citizens fight the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. One such initiative is the distribution of health and hygiene kits through an employee led CSR program, christened Sanjeevini.

Under the Sanjeevini initiative, TKM distributed health and hygiene kits to 5,000 employees, each of whom took it upon themselves to distribute the kits to five families in their neighbourhoods in Bangalore urban and rural areas, benefitting a total of 25,000 families. The kits comprised of a sanitiser bottle, three-ply facemasks and a hand-wash soap. The volunteering employees also created awareness on the safety precautions vital to contain the viral outbreak with special emphasis on maintaining health and hygiene in these times. The intention behind involving the employees was to propagate important hygiene practices and the use of masks to as many people as possible in their neighbourhoods.

In the recent past, TKM has contributed Rs 2 crore to the Karnataka Chief Minister’s Relief Fund followed by handing over 3,000 Hazmat suits to the Government Health Volunteers in the state. About 3,500 essential kits, benefitting over 15,000 members were given to daily wage workers. The company deployed 14 buses to support the health department in the state in addition to the distribution of sanitisers and masks to the state police. The brand also supported its supplier partner, Stump Schuele and Somappa Springs to ramp up its production of face shields from 275 to over 17,000 units per day.

Commenting on the occasion, Vikram Gulati, Country Head and Senior Vice President, External Affairs, Public Relations, Corporate Social Responsibility & Corporate Governance, TKM, said, “Since the onset of the pandemic, TKM has been proactively responding to the crisis according to the needs of the community as well as by supporting the Government efforts. The distribution of the health and hygiene kits carried out over the last month is another such program aimed at empowering the community we live in. The idea for distribution of the kits stemmed from the view of safeguarding not just our employees but also the other families residing in their neighbourhoods. In all, 25,000 families or about 1 lakh people were benefited by the health and hygiene kits. As a responsible corporate citizen, we will continue with such endeavours in the battle against the coronavirus spread.”Toyota Yaris₹ 8.87 Lakh onwardsAvg. Ex-Showroom priceGet Offers from Dealer

Toyota Kirloskar Motor sells 5,555 units in August 2020

– TKM saw a marginal rise in its M-o-M sales in August 2020

– The company will be launching the Urban Cruiser later this month

Toyota Kirloskar Motor sold a total of 5,555 units in the month of August 2020, thus exceeding sales volumes of July 2020, which stood at 5,386 units. The company had sold a total of 10,701 units in the domestic market in August 2019, and had exported 843 units of the Etios as well.

Last month, Toyota commenced bookings for the Urban Cruiser sub-four metre SUV for an amount of Rs 11,000. The company will be launching the model later this month and to know all about it, you can click here.

Commenting on the month’s performance, Naveen Soni, Senior Vice President, Sales and Service, TKM said, “We began August with a lot of apprehensions due to the skewed rise in COVID positive cases in Karnataka state and throughout the country. It had a resultant impact on both the demand and supply scenarios. Fortunately, August witnessed an increase in demand for most of our models akin to pre-COVID times, including customer inquiries and orders. However, supplying vehicles from our end (to dealers) posed as a challenge due to the rising number of COVID cases in Bangalore and its surrounding areas, where most of our workforces reside. This even lead us to ramp down production to a single shift so as to be able to ensure that we are taking all measures to safeguard the health and safety of our employees first, and of the community at large. Thankfully, more than half the COVID infected workers at TKM have recovered completely and are reporting back at work, after having completed all necessary protocols as laid down by the state health authorities. This has helped us immensely in inching up supplies, so as to be able to cater to the increasing demands of our customers.”Toyota Urban CruiserN/A

Toyota Kirloskar Motor sells 5,386 units in July 2020

Toyota Kirloskar Motor sells 5,386 units in July 2020

– Toyota India registered M-o-M growth of 40%

– The company will launch its compact SUV, based on the Vitara Brezza, in the festive season

Toyota Kirloskar Motor sold a total of 5,386 units in the month of July 2020, thus registering a 40% growth in sales when compared to June 2020. The company had sold a total of 10,423 units in the domestic market in July 2019 and had exported 868 units of the Etios as well. The Japanese brand clocked a total of 3,866 units in the first month post unlock in June.

Toyota has also announced its foray into the compact SUV segment this festive season along with its upcoming compact SUV, which is likely to be known as the Urban Cruiser. The model will be a rebadged version of the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and is expected to feature a reworked front design. The Urban Cruiser will be the second product under the Suzuki-Toyota Joint Venture (JV) after the Baleno, which is sold as the Glanza through Toyota sales network. You can read all about the Toyota Urban Cruiserhere.

Commenting on the month’s performance, Naveen Soni, Senior Vice President, Sales and Service, TKM said, “Despite various challenges, the month of July witnessed better sales in terms of both retail and sales when compared to June. The first month post unlock (June) witnessed demand rekindling and retails being very good due to several factors including pending customer orders as well as pent up demand accumulated as a result of the extended lockdown. However, in July, as a result of sporadic lockdowns and extensions being imposed in several parts of the country, it leads us to a situation wherein our business was closed up to 20% of the market, in and around mid-July. It was due to the rest of the 80% of our business that has helped us close the month with a higher than June retails. Similarly, the lockdown called upon Bangalore also caused us to temporarily shut down our plant for four days last month as a result of which we produced less than the numbers we had planned. At TKM, we fully understand and appreciate the balancing act by the government in addressing health threats and we will continue to adhere to the guidelines issued by the authorities. However, timely and clear instructions will help industrial units, better plan their production cycles and logistics including workforce and raw material movement.”Toyota Urban CruiserN/A

Toyota to resume operations at Bidadi plant on 20 July

– TKM to resume operations on 20 July based on the revised government directives

– The company reported six new positive cases of COVID-19 on 15 July

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has announced that the company will restart work at its production facility in Bidadi, Karnataka from 20 July. The announcement comes in the light of the revised directives issued by the Government of Karnataka allowing residents of urban and rural districts in Bengaluru to move and commute for industries located within the industrial estates. Operations at the TKM plant have been suspended from 14 July in adherence to the initial order, details of which are available here

On 15 July Toyota India reported six new positive cases of COVID-19, among which five are TKM employees and one is a contract staff. The company had previously reported 24 positive cases of COVID-19, out of which seven have recovered and are now undergoing 14 days of home quarantine.

TKM will continue to navigate the crisis by taking all possible preventive and remedial measures by working with various stakeholders including the relevant statutory authorities. Ever since the lockdown was lifted, only 40 to 45% of the production workforce has been attending work so as to maintain all norms of social distancing. On a daily basis, all employees have to self-declare their health condition, as a reassurance of their safe health. The company has also been ensuring that in a situation where an employee tests positive for COVID-19, it will undertake measures to quarantine those employees who are suspected to have had primary or secondary contact with the infected employees through contact tracing. A process of disinfecting the workplace on a daily basis is ensured along with special deep cleaning and disinfection of the affected areas. Toyota has also modified its medical insurance to include COVID-19 treatment and also increase the coverage for all its employees and their family members so as to extend support to them during this pandemic.
